Grant Morgan

Grant Morgan is a cellist and artist redefining what the instrument can say. Rooted in classical training but drawn toward the freedom and expressive language of contemporary music, he approaches the cello not simply as an orchestral instrument, but as a versatile voice capable of moving between genres and musical worlds. Through performance and content creation, Grant explores the space between tradition and modernization, often reimagining familiar music by playing the cello more like a guitar than a traditional bowed instrument.

Originally from Illinois, Grant began playing cello at a young age before pursuing a broader musical path at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. While earning his degree in Commercial Music, he served as principal cellist of the Belmont University Symphony and performed across a diverse range of styles, including classical, jazz, Celtic, bluegrass, pop, funk/fusion, and rock. These experiences challenged him to become a more adaptable and collaborative musician while exposing him to the many possibilities available to an instrumentalist beyond traditional performance.

Grant's professional experience extends beyond the concert stage. He has contributed to numerous recordings and studio sessions, appeared in music videos alongside Nashville-area artists, and performed in projects distributed to wider audiences, including a featured solo performance showcased on Amazon Prime. While these opportunities broadened his perspective, they also led him toward a deeper desire to define his own artistic identity.

Today, Grant continues to develop that identity through performance, content creation, and graduate study in cello performance under Grammy Award-winning cellist Zuill Bailey. His work draws from his classical foundation while embracing the creative possibilities of contemporary and commercial music, with a focus on authenticity, experimentation, and connection.

Grounded in his faith in Christ, Grant approaches music as more than a skill to be mastered or a performance to be presented. He sees it as a means of communicating something honest and meaningful, and strives to pursue his craft with purpose, discipline, and humility. His goal is not simply to demonstrate what the cello can do, but to use it to say something worth hearing.
